Long-nosed Goblin Dance

This festival presents a variety of traditional folk dances, passed down through the years as performance art. These include the Lion Dance, Long-nosed Goblin Dance, Halberd Dance, Miomai Dance, Sword Dance, and Saitori Dance. In particular, the rarely seen sword dance requires considerable skill with the blade. After the training, the dance is performed by late elementary school and junior high school aged boys.
Both the event and day-before preparations are carried out in traditional style, earning the dance a designation as one of Iiyama's Important Folk Culture Traditions.
