Daitengu Dance

It's said lucky to be touched by embers.

The Narazawa Daitengu (Large-nosed goblin) festival is held each year in Iiyama's Narazawa district. It features a halberd dance performed by 3rd & 4th graders from Iiyama Elementary school and a tengu dance performed with Hataki and Yumi goblins.
During the Daitengu dance, a 2.5 meter long torch is swung in huge circles, lighting up the darkness. As the straw torch burns, it's considered lucky to be touched by embers.
