With a 300 hundred year history, Kyokoya is the oldest pastry shop in Iiyama. Originally established as a tea house, the shop is located near the Mayumi Takahashi Doll Museum. Focusing on seasonal sweets, Kyokoya's top picks are sakura mochi (cherry blossom mochi) in spring, oyaki (buckwheat dumplings with savory filling) in summer, chestnut daifuku (mochi with sweet filling) in fall, and banana boats in winter. In particular, Kyokoya's banana boats have become a staple in Iiyama, featuring sponge cake with whipped cream and bananas wrapped in a crepe.
