This pastry shop has been passed down for three generations. The specialty monaka (wafer cake filled with bean paste) is made with carefully crafted red bean paste, made to be long-lasting. Called Fuku-monaka, or the "good fortune" monaka, it's also known as a salt monaka for the addition of salt as a special ingredient. Daikokuya is particular about its Japanese sweets, producing and selling particular sweets only in season. Even daifuku (Rice cake with bean jam), which is nowadays eaten year-round, is found only as a seasonal specialty in this shop. Here, you can taste as well as see the change in seasons!
