Daishoji was the home temple of Iiyama lords Hori Naoyori and Sakuma Yasumasa.A Koganeishi bodhisattva is enshrined in the temple, the statue erected after the 1847 Zenkoji earthquake as a way to soothe the spirits of the dead. In 1968, early Meiji period statesman Yamaoka Tesshu came to Iiyama to take part in a revival of Shojuan Temple, leaving gorgeous calligraphy works behind.Daishoji is the temple of Bishamonten, the guardian god, and one of Iiyama's Seven Deities of Good Fortune.
