On the recommendation of Iiyama feudal lord Matsudaira Tadatomo, Renshoji was moved to its current location in 1667. Since the Edo Period, the building housing the temple's Shotoku Taishi figure has been the focus of worshippers, generally working people from Iiyama's central district. Each year on January 21st, Renshoji hosts large scale Buddhist mass.
